John Odette, MD - Bio

John Odette MD Dr. John Odette was born and raised in St. Cloud, Minnesota where he learned to enjoy the great outdoors playing multiple sports and staying very active.  Becoming a member of a college golf team, however, led him to Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.  John grew to love Texas over the next ten years while he finished college, worked in Houston, went to the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, and completed his Transitional Year Internship in Fort Worth.  For John, all parts of Texas were different but all had charm.

His ophthalmology residency returned him north to the Mason Eye Clinic at the University of Missouri.  He completed his residency achieving excellence in cataract surgery, minor oculoplastic surgery, medical retina, pediatrics and glaucoma while becoming chief resident his final year.  He is also certified on the VISX and Intralase lasers to perform iLASIK and PRK procedures.  During his residency he completed research in the area of Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) and presented his work at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in 2009.  A research paper with his work is currently pending for publication.

During John’s career he has also enjoyed doing volunteer medical work in underserved countries such as Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru.  He enjoys traveling and plans to continue work with the underserved.  John and his loving wife Karen, who was also a UTMB graduate in Physical Therapy, desired to return to Texas following his residency and he has now joined the team of ophthalmologists at Austin Eye.  He loves to provide one on one care with a smile to all of his patients while at the same time providing the best medical and surgical experience.
